Pacers Fall To CNU And Meredith

RALEIGH, NC -- William Peace University volleyball fell to Christopher Newport University and Meredith College on the final day of the WPU Quad-Match. Christopher Newport would put up a tough match to take a 3-0 win over the Pacers, while Meredith would take a 3-1 win despite good effort from WPU.

HOW IT HAPPENED

GAME ONE - CHRISTOPHER NEWPORT UNIVERSITY


Set One (17-25)

The Captains would take an early 3-1 lead over the Pacers, with kills by Maddie Carter and Mackenzie Wright. A kill from Kelsey Bierbauer would tie the set 3-3, but the Captains would go on a run to take an 8-3 advantage. An 8-point run would put CNU ahead 20-5. The Pacers would make an impressive comeback, going on two runs to bring the score to 24-17, but CNU would grab the final point to win 25-17 and take a 1-0 lead in the match.

Set Two (18-25)

The Captains would take an early 6-2 lead in set two. A kill by Landis Limon would put the Pacers within one as they trailed 8-7, but CNU would go on a five-point run to lead 13-7. A kill by Jordan Juanes and a few attack errors would bring the Pacers back within 4 as they trailed 21-17, but the Captains would keep the Pacers at bay to win 25-18 and take a 2-0 lead in the match.

Set Three (13-25)

Kelsey Bierbauer would tie the third set 6-6 early on with two consecutive kills. The Captains would start rolling, with a quick run putting them ahead 13-8. The Captains would continue to control the set, going on a few runs and shutting down the Pacer defense to take a 25-13 win in the set, securing a 3-0 win in the match.

GAME TWO - MEREDITH COLLEGE

Set One (25-16)

The start of set one would be a close contest, with the Pacers taking a 6-3 lead on a kill by Shelby Cooper. A service ace by Hannah Ward would give WPU an 11-7 advantage, with Hannah Collier's service ace bringing the score to 16-9. A kill by Shelby Cooper would give WPU a dominant 20-13 advantage. The Pacers would continue to hold the momentum and would close out the set taking advantage of an attack error to win 25-16.

Set Two (22-25)

Meredith would gain a slight advantage early in set two, leading 7-4 on a kill by Sara Dees. A kill by Hannah Collier would put the Pacers within one as they trailed 11-10, with a service ace giving the Pacers a 14-13 advantage. The set would continue to go back-and-forth, with Meredith tying the set 20-20. Despite a great battle from the Pacers, the Avenging Angels would gain some momentum at the end of the set to win 25-22 and tie the match 1-1.

Set Three (21-25)

In set three, the Avenging Angels would again get out to an early 7-4 lead over the Pacers. A run would put them up 15-6 before the Pacers would battle with kills from Georgia Grace Anderson and Hannah Collier to bring WPU within 3 as they trailed 16-13. The Pacers would continue to battle at the end of the set with blocks from Hannah Collier and Georgia Grace Anderson bringing them back within 3 as they trailed 24-21, but Meredith would grab the final point to win 25-21 and take a 2-1 lead on the match.

Set Four (23-25)

The final set would be the closest contest of all four, with a kill by Shelby Cooper putting the Pacers ahead 9-8. Kills by Alyssa Poteat and Hannah Collier would increase the Pacer lead to 19-15, but Meredith would battle to tie the set 20-20, with the Pacers later tying the set 23-23. Meredith would tally the last two points to win 25-23 and take a 3-1 win over the Pacers.

PACER TOP PERFORMERS FOR THE FOES
  • Maddie Carter tallied 17 kills for CNU in game one, while Sammy Carroll added 39 assists.
  • Lauren Bissette recorded 15 kills for Meredith in game two.
STATS OF THE GAME
  • WPU tallied 8 blocks in game one and 7 in game two.
NEXT GAME
The Pacers will travel to Emory, VA to take on Emory & Henry College on September 14th, 2021. Gametime is set for 6PM.
