Volleyball Defeats Guilford In Three In First Game Of Quad-Match

RALEIGH, NC -- William Peace University volleyball swept Guilford College 3-0 for their first match of the WPU Quad-Match. The first set would be the closest of three at 25-21, but the Pacers would close in on the final two sets, winning both 25-15.

HOW IT HAPPENED

Set One (25-21)
The first set would begin with the Pacers taking a 2-0 lead on a kill from Hannah Collier and an attack error. The Quakers would tie it up 2-2, but kills from Georgia Grace Anderson and Shelby Cooper would give WPU a 5-2 advantage. A kill by Landis Limon would put WPU up 10-7, but the Quakers would gain some momentum to gain a 13-11 lead. A service ace from Shelby Cooper would tie the set 16-16, and a 4-point run would put the Pacers up 21-18. The Quakers would get back within one as they trailed 22-21, but the Pacers would put away the final points to win set one 25-21.

Set Two (25-15)
In set two, the Pacers would take a commanding 6-1 lead with kills from Shelby Cooper and Kelsey Bierbauer. A service ace from Logan Moore would bring the score to 11-8, and a 6-point run with kills by Shelby Cooper, Georgia Grace Anderson, and Kelsey Bierbauer would give the Pacers a dominating 19-11 lead. Landis Limon and Mackenzie Russell would put the final points away for the Pacers to secure a 25-15 win and a 2-0 lead in the match.

Set Three (25-15)
Set three would be tied 3-3 early before the Pacers would take control to lead 10-4. Two consecutive kills by Jordan Juanes would put the score at 15-9, with kills from Logan Moore and Landis Limon increasing the lead to 19-12. The Pacers would continue to control the rest of the set to take a comfortable 25-15 win and secure the 3-0 game win.
