Baseball Splits Doubleheader With Roanoke As They Improve To 8-2

Salem, VA -- William Peace University baseball went 1 for 2 in a doubleheader matchup with Roanoke College. The Pacers won the first matchup with a close score of 7-5. In game two, the Pacers and the Maroons worked stayed neck and neck but the Maroons came away with a 6-5 victory.

HOW IT HAPPENED
Game One - The first inning of the game went without either team scoring for their respective sides. Alec Seaton singled to right field allowing Logan Barbour to score the first point of the entire game putting the Pacers up 1-0. Roanoke's Will Smith would hit a home run in the bottom of the third inning to put the Marooners up 2-1 going into the fourth inning. The top of the fourth would see the Pacers running away with the lead from runs by Logan Barbour, Patrick Rogan, Hunter Ward, and Sean Roseborough making the score 5-2 going into the 5th. The Pacers would stay on the grind as Patrick Rogan and Jake Dacunto would both score to bring the Pacers lead to 7-2. In the sixth and final ending, Roanoke would try to battle their way back into the game with Will Merriken, PK Cocolis, and Cale Agee scoring to make the final score 7-5 with the Pacers taking the win.

Game Two - Will Merriken got the bottom of the first inning going for his team, hitting a home run to give the Maroons a 1-0 lead. Tyler Vaughn would soon respond scoring for the Pacers in the top of the second. In the top of the fourth inning the Pacers were able to get Tyler Vaughn and Nathan Holt through to home plate to make the score 4-2. The bottom of the fifth saw the Maroons trying to turn the ties as they got Gavin Kandrick, Carson McCusker, and Carter Plunkett back to home plate to give them a 5-4 lead. In the sixth inning both teams walked away with another point each. The Pacers would not be able to get any more runs in the seventh inning, allowing the Maroons to take a 6-5 win.

PACER TOP PERFORMERS
  • Patrick Rogan pitched 4 innings, recording 38 strikes and allowing 4 runs in the second game
  • Nathan Holt would record 2 RBIs as he went 2 for 4 at the plate.
FOR THE FOES
  • Tanner James was on the mound for 3.2 innings, tallying 37 strikes in the second game
NEXT GAME
The Pacers will travel to Lynchburg, VA to face the University of Lynchburg on March 9th. First pitch is scheduled for 2PM.
