Pacers Take Game One Of Series Against Cougars

Cary, NC -- William Peace University baseball defeated Averett University in the first game of a 3-game series by a score of 15-3. The Pacers got out to an early 2-0 lead, and excellent pitching would keep the Cougars off the scoreboard.

HOW IT HAPPENED

GAME ONE
1st through 4th - Tyshawn Barrett would get the Pacers going in the bottom of the first, with his double to left center scoring Alec Seaton and Gavin Taylor to give the Pacers an early 2-0 lead. Pitcher Sam Peddycord would keep the Cougars off the scoreboard, recording 3 strikeouts through 5 innings. In the bottom of the third, a single by Hunter Ward would score Nathan Holt and Tyler Vaughn, while a double from Sean Roseborough would bring home Logan Barbour and Ward, giving the Pacers a 6-0 lead. In the bottom of the 4th, a double from Tyler Vaughn would score Alec Seaton to bring the score to 7-1, with the Cougars scoring a single run in the top of that inning. 

5th through 9th - Two singles at the top of the fifth by the Cougars would cut their deficit down to five runs as they trailed 7-3. In the bottom of the 6th, Gavin Taylor would put himself in scoring position with a triple to centerfield, scoring moments later on a single from Alec Seaton to bring the score to 8-3. A sacrifice fly by Tyler Vaughn would score Seaton to increase the Pacer lead to 9-3, with Logan Barbour's sacrifice fly scoring Tyshawn Barrett for a 10-3 lead. Nathan Holt would score on a passed ball as the Pacers led 11-3 heading into the 7th inning. A 2-RBI single from Tyshawn Barrett would increase the lead to 13-3 in the bottom of the 7th, while a single from Tyler Vaughn would bring in the final two runs to secure the 15-3 win for the Pacers.
