Pacers Shutout Mary Baldwin To Improve To 3-1 In The Conference

Raleigh, NC -- The William Peace University men's soccer team defeated Mary Baldwin 2-0 in a USA South Conference match-up. Nathan Seery would take advantage of an early-game penalty kick to put the Pacers up 1-0, with Donnie Leahy's goal giving the team a 2-0 advantage.

HOW IT HAPPENED
The Pacers would control the game early, gaining possession and putting pressure on the Fighting Squirrels. Archie Filliter would get taken down to draw a penalty kick, with Nathan Seery stepping up and his shot beating goalkeeper Obdulio Argueta in the top right corner to give the Pacers a 1-0 lead five minutes into the first half. Neither team would get another chance until 18:38, with a shot from midway down the field by Robert Hailes finding Pacer goalkeeper Jacob Smith. The Fighting Squirrels would get a few opportunities on a few corner kicks, but Smith would keep them from finding the back of the net. At 26:48, Jorge Aguilar would beat two players in front to cross the ball in, allowing Donnie Leahy to head it in to give WPU a 2-0 lead. Arguetta would back a good save on a header by Kofi Appiagyei, and the Pacers would head into halftime leading 2-0.

Mary Baldwin's best chance would come at the start of the second half, with Brandon John's shot hitting the post. The Pacers would roll with their momentum in the, with several shots going just high or blocked in front by the Mary Baldwin defense. Jorge Aguilar would get the final chance of the game at 84:23, but Argeuta would keep the Pacers from scoring again.
