Pacers Best Meredith In Game One Of Crosstown Rivarly

Raleigh, NC -- William Peace University women's basketball defeated crosstown rival Meredith College by a score of 75-68. The first half would prove to be a back-and-forth contest, with the score 33-32 heading into halftime. The Pacers would continue to press in the second half to secure the 75-68 victory.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Cierra Baker started things off for the Pacers in the first quarter as she would drain a shot from behind the arc in the first minute to put the Pacers up 3-0. Tatianna Occena and Baker would add back-to-back layups to give WPU a 7-0 lead. Baker would add another 3-point shot for a 14-4 advantage, while Maria DeVincenzo's 3-pointer would send the Pacers into the second quarter with a 21-12 lead.
  • Stephanie Chandler would drive under the net to begin the second quarter as the Pacers led 23-14. Meredith would add pressure to get within one, but Maria DeVincenzo would make a few shots from the foul line to keep the Pacers in the lead as she brought the score to 27-24. Meredith would briefly take a 32-30 lead, but a layup by Tatianna Occena would send the Pacers into halftime leading 33-32.
  • Occena would keep the momentum going in the third quarter with a drive under the net, with Sydney Austin adding a few points as the Pacers led 38-34. A layup by Jaymesha Sanders would increase the lead to 42-36. Meredith would continue to push the Pacer defense, with Sanders adding another layup to keep the Pacers in the lead 48-42. Maria DeVincenzo would add a few shots from the foul line to send the Pacers into the final quarter leading 54-44.
  • Both teams would continue to play hard in the final quarter. Mariah Partin would add a few consecutive layups to put the Pacers in the lead 60-50, while Kiera Williams and Cierra Baker would increase the lead to 64-50. Jaymesha Sanders would drive under the net to push the score to 69-60. A few final shots from the free throw line by Maria DeVincenzo would seal a 75-68 win for the Pacers.
PACER TOP PERFORMERS FOR THE FOES
  • Katie Perko tallied 26 points for Meredith.
  • Kimberly Schuh recorded a double-double with 11 points and 11 rebounds.
