Pacers Split Series As They Fall In Game Two To Meredith

Raleigh, NC -- William Peace University women's basketball fell to Meredith College by a score of 71-60. The Pacers trailed by just a few points heading into halftime, but a strong second half by the Avenging Angels would propel them to the win.

HOW IT HAPPENED 
  • Tatianna Occena would get the Pacers going in the first quarter with a shot behind the arc to give them a 4-2 lead. Meredith's Kate Perko would begin racking up the first of her 29 points to give the Avenging Angels a 9-6 advantage. A 3-point shot by Maria DeVincenzo would regain the Pacer lead 11-10, with a layup by Alysiah Taylor increasing that lead to 13-10. A few shots from the foul line by DeVincenzo would send the Pacers into the second quarter with a 15-12 lead.
  • The second quarter would prove to be a back-and-forth battle, with neither team able to get much going until midway through. A jumper by Jaymesha Sanders would tie things 21-21, with Meredith taking a short run to give them a 29-23 edge. Kiera Williams and Cierra Baker would combine to close the gap, sending WPU into halftime trailing 31-28.
  • Meredith would pressure the Pacers in the beginning of the third quarter, putting up several points before WPU was able to get a stop. Cierra Baker and Maria DeVincenzo would add back-to-back points to cut the lead to 43-37. Kiera Williams would get to the foul line for a few points, while a drive by Sydney Austin would bring the Pacers within a few points as they trailed 47-44. Meredith would get the final points in the third quarter as they led 51-46 heading into the final quarter.
  • Kiera Williams would again head to the free throw line early in the fourth quarter, with layups by Stephanie Chandler and Sydney Austin bringing the Pacers back within three 55-52. Kate Perko would continue to roll for Meredith, keeping them in the lead as they took a 67-54 advantage. Maria DeVincenzo would add some final points from the foul line, but the Pacers would fall to Meredith 71-60.
PACER TOP PERFORMERS FOR THE FOES
  • Kate Perko recorded a double-double with 19 rebounds and 29 points.
  • Kimberly Schuh also had a double-double with 16 points and 12 rebounds.
STATS OF THE GAME
  • The Pacers shot at 32.8% from the field, while Meredith shot at 42.1%.
  • Meredith grabbed 49 rebounds in comparison to the Pacers' 35.
