Pacers Fall After Fourth Quarter Surge From Falcons

Raleigh, NC -- William Peace University women's basketball suffered a 80-86 loss to Pfeiffer University to bring their record to 6-5. The first half of the game was a close contest, with the Pacers leading by 40-37 heading into halftime. The Pacers would fight hard to keep their lead but would end up losing in the final quarter.

  • Final score: William Peace University 80 (6-5),  Pfeiffer 86 (4-3)
  • Location: Raleigh, NC
HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The Falcons would get the first points of the game with Mya Johnson putting in an open layup. However, the Pacers would go on a 6-point run to take the lead before the Pacers could make their next point making the score 6-2. DeVincenzo and Williams would be major factors in keeping the Pacers' lead going into the second quarter with a score of 21-11.
  • The Falcons would get the second half started in their favor with Brina Bentley putting in a layup and a clean jumper to close the gap between the teams. Scoring would go back-and-forth between the Pacers and the Falcons for the majority of the second quarter with clutch shots coming from Mya Johnson. A layup from the Pacers' Stephanie Chandler would seal the lead for the Pacers going into halftime with the score being 40-37.
  • Lauryn Cross would start off the second half for the Pacers, sinking in a clean 3-pointer as the Pacers led 43-37. Scoring would continue to go back-and-forth with the Falcons trying hard to close the gap between them and the Pacers. Maria DeVincenzo would continue to attack the rim, notching her 22nd with two free throws, then her 25th with a 3-pointer from behind the arc to make the score 61-59. Mya Johnson would respond a few seconds after with a jumper to make the final score of the quarter 61-59.
  • Lauryn Cross would start the 4th quarter off quick by draining a jumper from behind the arc within the first 3 seconds making the score 64-59. The Falcons would not give up as they would soon come to tie the game up 71-71 with a 3-pointer from Shalonda Wilkins, assisted by Brina Bentley. Including that 3-pointer, the Falcons would end up going on a 10-point run to take the lead from the Pacers making the score 78-71. Alexis Murriel would seal the win for the Falcons making both free throws finalizing the score to a 86-80 victory for the Falcons.
PACER TOP PERFORMERS
  • Maria DeVincenzo led the team with 25 points as she went 3-5 from behind the arc.
  • Jaymesha Sanders dominated as she scored 19 points and retrieved a game-high 10 rebounds.
FOR THE FOES
  • Brina Bentley led the Falcons with 22 points.
  • Mya Johnson recorded 12 points and a team-high 7 boards.
STATS OF THE GAME
  • The Pacers grabbed 51 boards in comparison to the Falcons' 38.
