Pacers Defeat Pride To Sweep The Series

Raleigh, NC -- William Peace University women's basketball team went head-to-head with Greensboro College, taking a 77-68 win as the Pacers swept the Pride. The Pacers and Pride started off the first half putting up points back-to-back, with the Pacers taking the lead in the first quarter. The Pacers played some strong defense and held the lead for the remainder of the game.

HOW IT HAPPENED 
  • As the first half started, the Pacers jumped out with some strong defensive play. Tatianna Occena and Mariah Partin put up the first few points to put the Pacers up 4-2. The Pacers and the Pride were going toe-to-toe putting points on the board, as halfway in the first quarter, the Pacers and Pride would be tied 8-8. A few free throws and a drive in the paint by Kiera Williams would begin to build the Pacer lead 15-13, with a few shots from the foul line by Maria DeVincenzo ending the first quarter with the Pacers holding a 23-17 advantage.
  • At the start of the second quarter, Pamela Mock put up a free throw followed by a jumper to put the Pacers at 26-17. Cierra Baker and Maria Devincenzo kept the Pacers in the lead with a few good free throws and a layup halfway through the second quarter as WPU led 30-19. Sydney Austin and Nautica Falls would make back-to-back drives under the net as they sent the Pacers into halftime leading 40-23. 
  • Sydney Austin's jumper and Jaymesha Sanders' layup at the start of the third would give WPU a 44-25 edge. Cierra Baker would give the Pacers a 23-point lead with a shot from behind the arc as the team led 52-29. Sydney Austin would end the quarter for the Pacers with a jumper as WPU headed into the final quarter leading 57-45.
  • The Pacers continued to put up some good defensive stops, with Kiera Williams and Pamela Mock bringing the score to 62-47. Jaymesha Sanders would put up two on a fastbreak, while a few shots from the foul line by Maria DeVincenzo would bring the score to 68-53. A shot from behind the arc by Mariah Partin and a few free throws by Maria DeVincenzo and Cierra Baker would seal the 77-68 win.

  • Sydney Austin had a total of 13 points as she went from 5 for 11 from the field and 3 for 4 from the foul line.
  • Kiera Williams tallied 13 points and 7 rebounds.
FOR THE FOES
  • Lauren Livingston led Greensboro College with 22 points while adding 4 rebounds.
  • Briana Milton recorded a double-double with 14 points and 15 rebounds.
STATS OF THE GAME
  • The Pacers shot at 41% from the field.
