Pacers Fall To Shenandoah In Home Opener

Raleigh, NC -- William Peace University men's lacrosse fell to Shenandoah University by a score of 17-8. Shenandoah would take a 5-1 lead in the first period, extending their lead to 16-5 in the third. The Pacers would hold the Hornets to just one goal in the final period while adding three, but they were unable to close the gap and would fall 17-8.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The Hornets would get some early momentum in the first period as Jay Baker would find the back of the net on an assist by Logan Clingerman. Kuleul Moore would make several consecutive saves, with John Harvey Turner's goal tying the game at 1-1. Shenandoah would go on a run at the end of the period to take a 5-1 lead despite several impressive saves by Moore.
  • It would be a battle between the goalies as neither team was able to score until midway through the second period. Scout Philipp would score off an assist from Nick Falso as the Pacers trailed 6-2. Finn McGrady would score with a little over a minute remaining in the period to bring the score to 6-3, but Shenandoah would add two quick goals to take a 8-3 lead heading into halftime.
  • The Hornets would add three quick goals at the start of the third, including one on the man-up advantage, to lead 11-3. Goalie Nick Shelton would come up big with some key saves, but the Hornets would continue to find ways to score as they led 14-3. Brewer Warlick and Devin Noonan would add two goals within a few minutes to bring the score to 15-5, with the Hornets adding a final goal to head into the fourth period leading 16-5.
  • In the final period, Scout Philipp would close the gap for the Pacers at 8:20, while a goal by Nick Falso off of a won faceoff by Matthew Boteler would bring the score to 16-7. Falso would add another just minutes later as the Pacers chipped away at the 16-8 Hornet lead. Despite the push from the Pacers, the Hornets would add a final goal and take a 17-8 win.

  • Devon Weaver led the Hornets with 4 goals.
  • Chris Baker tallied 2 goals and 3 assists, while Christian Clement went 7-12 in the faceoff circle.
