Noonan's Late Goal Lifts Pacers Past Ferrum For First Win Of The Season

Raleigh, NC -- The Pacers picked up a win at home against Ferrum College. The Pacers started the first quarter by going up 2-0. In the second, the Pacers extended their lead to 3-1. In the third quarter, Ferrum responded by cutting the Pacer lead to 4-2. In the fourth and final quarter, the Pacers responded by going up 5-2, but the Ferrum Panthers closed in on the pacer lead and scored three unanswered goals to tie the game at 5-5. In the final seconds of the game, Devin Noonan scored to clinch the win for the Pacers. The final score was 6-5.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • In the first quarter, both teams battled defensively until Finn McGrady scored to put the Pacers up 1-0 late in the first quarter. The Pacers picked up 9 ground balls to the Panthers 6. Nick Shelton started the game off with 3 saves. The Pacers fought off a man-down situation to end the quarter and keep the Panthers scoreless.
  • The Pacers were solid through the second quarter with Nick Falso picking up 3 ground balls and Matthew Boteler going 4-5 in the circle for the Pacers. Nick Shelton continued to dominate between the pipes by tallying 2 more saves. On a man-up opportunity, Finn McGrady added another goal for the Pacers assisted by Scout Philipp to push the Pacer momentum on the offensive side. Late in the second quarter, the Panthers scored to cut the Pacer lead to 2-1. The Pacers ended the half with a goal from Devin Noonan assisted by Riely Murray to extend the Pacers' lead to 3-1. 
  • The Panthers started the third quarter by scoring a goal off a Pacer turnover. The Pacers responded with an unassisted goal from Scout Philipp to put WPU up 4-2. Kuleul Moore started the second half in goal for the Pacers and put up 5 saves in the third quarter and allowed 1 goal. 
  • In the final quarter, the Pacers extended their lead with a goal from Scout Philipp to put WPU up 5-2. The Panthers responded with three unanswered goals to tie the game at 5-5. In the final seconds of the game, a goal by Devin Noonan assisted by Scout Philipp clinched the game for the Pacers.

  • Scout Philipp tallied 2 goals and 2 assists while also picking up 4 ground balls.
  • Devin Noonan scored 2 goals including the game winner for the Pacers.
  • Matthew Boteler picked up 7 ground balls and went 9-14 from the face-off circle for the Pacers.
  • Patrick Calhoun had 2 caused turnovers and 4 ground balls to lead the Pacer defense.
