Raleigh, NC -- William Peace University men's basketball team fell to Averett University 88-39. The Cougars would play a tough defensive game against the Pacers as they gained early momentum in the first half, with the Pacers unable to close the gap.

HOW IT HAPPENED 

• At the start of the first half, the Cougars would get out to an early 4-2 lead. They would then go on a 24-point run to lead 26-2 as the Cougars would drain several shots from behind the arc, shooting at 72.7% from the 3-point line in the first half. Beau Bryant would stop the Cougar run with a shot from behind the arc, while a layup in the paint by Tyler Parton would decrease the Cougar lead to 28-7. The Cougars would then go on a 20-point run to lead 48-10, with Bryant adding a jumper as the Pacers headed into halftime trailing 48-12.
• Averett would continue to put up defensive stops in the second half, going on an early 10-point run to lead 65-16. Tyler Parton would add a few jumpers, while Donolly Tyrell Jr. would drive in the paint as the team attempted to close the gap as they trailed 69-22. Tyrell Jr. would add a shot from behind the arc and a few shots from the foul line, but Averett would continue to shoot well from the 3-point line, and the Pacers would be unable to close the gap as they fell 88-39.

PACER TOP PERFORMERS

• Tyler Parton tallied 14 points as he went 6 for 11 from the field.
• Beau Bryant added 8 points and 5 rebounds.

FOR THE FOES

• Isaiah Jones added 17 points and 7 rebounds as he shot 7 for 9 from the field.
• Montre' Cash recorded 15 points for the Cougars.
