Men's Basketball Falls To Pfeiffer After Strong Second Half From Falcons

Raleigh, NC -- William Peace University men's basketball fell to Pfeiffer University 99-71. The first half of the game was a close contest, with the score sitting at 48-40 in favor of Pfeiffer heading into halftime. The Falcons put up a big second half to take the 99-71 win over the Pacers.

HOW IT HAPPENED 
  • The Pacers would take a quick 5-2 lead at the start of the first half, with a few free throws and a 3-point shot by Cole Atwood bringing the score to 10-3. Atwood and Smith Gupton would trade back-to-back 3-pointers to give WPU a 16-5 lead. The Falcons would force a couple of turnovers to close the gap to 21-17, eventually tying everything up at 21-21.
  • A few layups by Darius Jackson would regain a 28-21 lead for the Pacers, but the Falcons would take advantage of a few shots from the foul line and some shots from behind the arc to take a 34-32 lead. They would continue to be strong from the free throw line, holding off the Pacers to take a 48-40 lead.
  • The Falcons would go on a quick run at the beginning of the second half to take a 53-40 advantage. Pfeiffer's Jerome Savoy would lead the team, with his effort from the foul line bringing the score to 66-47. Ti'Quan Whitmore would add a few layups to cut the Falcons' lead to 66-51.
  • Whitmore would hit a shot from behind the arc near the middle of the second half as the Pacers trailed 75-57. The Falcons would continue to put up some strong defense as they went on another run to lead 83-57. Donolique Tyrell and Josh Owens would put up some last minute points for the Pacers, but the team would fall 99-71 to the Falcons.

  • Jerome Savoy led the Falcons with 18 points.
  • Dorian Miles recorded a double-double with 12 points and 10 rebounds.
