Pacers Fall After Cougars Fast Start

Raleigh, NC -- William Peace University men's basketball fell to Averett University by a score of 89-69. Averett would take an early lead to control the game, holding an edge over the Pacers despite several good runs from WPU. The Pacers would close the gap in the second half, but would ultimately fall to the Cougars 89-69.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • In the first half, Darius Jackson and Donolly Tyrell Jr. would get the Pacers on the board, with Tyrell Jr.'s shot from behind the arc putting the Pacers up 5-4. The Cougars would go on a 14-point run to lead 18-5 before Beau Bryant would get to the free throw line. A tip-in by Bryant would cut the Cougar lead to 20-11, but the Cougars would continue to hold the edge.
  • Averett would go on a 15-point run to lead 35-13. Malachi Borders and Darius Jackson would get to the foul line to lessen the Cougar advantage, while Beau Bryant's 3-pointer would bring the score to 45-21. A shot from behind the arc by Cole Atwood would send the Pacers into halftime trailing 52-30.
  • Donolly Tyrell Jr. and Cole Atwood would start things off for the Pacers in the second half before a 3-point shot by Beau Bryant would cut the Cougar lead to 61-42. Jalen Owens and Bryant would trade 3-point shots, with Tyler Parton adding a layup to bring the score to 67-50.
  • Parton's jumper would bring the Pacers within 15 as they trailed 69-54. Jalen Owens would head to the free throw line as the Cougars continued to hold a 78-60. A few shots from the foul line by Donolique Tyrell would add some last minute points for the Pacers, but WPU would fall 89-69 to the Cougars.
PACER TOP PERFORMERS FOR THE FOES
  • Montre' Cash tallied 23 points for the Cougars as he shot 7-15 from the field. 
  • Isaiah Jones recorded 17 points as he went 5-13 from the field and 5-5 from the foul line.
STATS OF THE GAME
  • The Pacers shot at 45.8% from the field in comparison to the Cougars' 50.0%.
  • Averett grabbed 32 rebounds while WPU grabbed 30.
NEXT GAME
The Pacers will head to Danville, VA on Sunday, February 14th for game two of the series against the Cougars. Tip-off is scheduled for 1 PM.
