Men's Basketball Finishes Strong To Take Down Wildcats In Overtime

RALEIGH, NC -- William Peace University men's basketball defeated Randolph College 90-81 in overtime. The Pacers trailed 37-36 at the half, while a last minute layup from the Wildcats would tie the game 72-72 to send it to overtime.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The game would prove to be an aggressive back-and-forth contest, with the Wildcats taking an early 9-2 lead before a jumper from Rashod Rouse followed by a steal and layup from Rouse would bring the Pacers within one as they trailed 9-8. The Wildcats would get a few good stops to lead 18-10. A shot from the foul line from Malachi Borders and a layup from Dillon Butler would bring the score to 21-19, with a 3-pointer from Garrett Phillips tying it 29-29. A 3-pointer from Tyler Parton and a jumper from Beau Bryant would bring the score to 35-34, with a final layup from Jalen Owens keeping the Pacers within one as they trailed 37-36 heading into halftime.
  • The Wildcats would go on a short run early in the second half, but a jumper from Jalen Owens would cut their lead down to 47-44. A shot from behind the arc by Tyler Parton would tie it 49-49, with a jumper from Rashod Rouse keeping the Pacers within 4 as the Wildcats led 59-55. A shot from the foul line by Beau Bryant would tie it again at 63-63, with a layup from Rashod Rouse putting the Pacers up 70-69. A jumper by Beau Bryant would put the Pacers ahead 72-70, but the Wildcats would tie it at the buzzer to send the game into overtime at 72-72.
  • A 3-pointer from Michael Dulin and a jumper from Rashod Rouse would put the Pacers up 79-72 early in overtime. A jumper from Beau Bryant and two free throws from Malachi Borders would put the score at 83-74, with a few final free throws from Garrett Phillips and Michael Dulin securing the win for the Pacers by a score of 90-81.
