Men's Basketball Falls In Overtime To Centre

RALEIGH, NC -- William Peace University men's basketball fell in overtime after a close battle with Centre College by a score of 83-74.

THE BASICS
  • Final score: William Peace 74, Centre 83

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The first half would start slow and go back-and-forth, with a 3-pointer from Garrett Phillips tying it 9-9. The Colonels would take a 17-11 lead before a jumper from Rashod Rouse and a layup from Jalen Owens would bring the score to 20-17 in favor of the Pacers. A few free throws by Jalen Owens would bring the Pacers back within one after the Colonels took a 24-23 lead, with a layup from Tyler Parton putting the Pacers up 30-29. Cole Atwood would hit a late 3-pointer, with the Colonels' Carter Baughman responding with his own to send the game into halftime with Centre leading 35-34.
  • Two shots from behind the arc from Garrett Phillips and Malachi Borders would put the Pacers up 46-39. A few free throws from Jalen Owens would keep them ahead 52-50 as Centre battled back. A jumper from Tyler Parton would put the Pacers up 59-55, while two free throws from Parton would bring the score to 65-60. The Colonels however would battle back and tie the game 68-68 late in the second half, sending it to overtime.
  • The Colonels would get a few good stops early in overtime to lead 74-68. Tyler Parton would add a layup and a shot from the foul line as the Pacers trailed 81-74, but Centre would get the final points to win 83-74.

  • Dustin Gerald led the Colonels with 29 points.
  • RJ Smith and Chez Moore each recorded a double-double.
