Women's Basketball Falls In Close Contest To Shaw

RALEIGH, NC -- William Peace University women's basketball fell to Shaw University 75-67 in a hard-fought contest. The Pacers trailed by just three (38-35) at the half, but the Bears would put up a strong final two quarters to come away with the win.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The Bears would get out to an early 7-2 lead in the first quarter. A jumper from Pamela Mock would cut the Shaw lead to 13-8. The Bears would take control to lead 22-8, with a few last minute shots from the foul line sending them into the second leading 24-10.
  • Arianna Hamilton would add a layup and a shot from behind the arc as the Pacers cut away at Shaw's 30-18 lead early in the second quarter. The Pacers would get a few good stops, with jumpers from Arianna Hamilton and a 3-pointer from Faith Resto putting the score at 32-27. Layups from Kiera Williams and Arianna Hamilton would bring the Pacers within three as they trailed 36-33, with a final jumper from Shaw sending the game into halftime with a score of 38-35 in favor of the Bears.
  • Some early foul trouble in the third quarter would allow Shaw to gain a 6-37 advantage before they would go on a run to lead 53-37. A shot from behind the arc by Pamela Mock and two consecutive jumpers from Ninevah Reddick would put the score at 57-47. The Bears would keep the Pacers at a 10-point distance heading into the final quarter as they led 59-49.
  • An early 3-pointer from Nautica Falls would keep the Pacers in the game as Shaw battled for a 65-54 lead. Layups from Nautica Falls and Kiera Williams would put the Pacers back within 9 as they trailed 73-64. A final layup from Arianna Hamilton would keep the Pacers within 8, but the Bears would come away with a 75-67 win.
