Strong Second Half Propels D1 Appalachian State Over Pacers In Exhibition

BOONE, NC -- William Peace University men's basketball took on D1 Appalachian State University in an exhibition game, falling 98-49. The Pacers put up two solid halves against the Mountaineers as they trailed just 42-28 at the half, but the final twelve minutes of play would be controlled by Appalachian State to allow them to pull away from the Pacers.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The Mountaineers would get a few early stops to get out to a 6-0 lead over the Pacers before a jumper from Rashod Rouse would cut the lead to 6-3. Garrett Phillips and Michael Dulin would contribute back-to-back 3-pointers as the Pacers trailed 18-12 before Appalachian State would go on a run to lead 27-12. Another 3-pointer from Dulin and two from Phillips would put the Pacers back in the game as they trailed 36-23, with a final shot from behind the arc from Beau Bryant sending the Pacers into halftime trailing just 42-28.
  • The Mountaineers would control the second half early before a 3-pointer from Smith Gupton and a drive under the net from Michael Dulin would bring the score to 55-39. Appalachian State would then go on a strong run to lead 83-42 as they out rebounded the Pacers. Micah McQueen and Logan Wheeler would put up the final points for the Pacers, but the Mountaineers would come away with a 98-49 victory.

  • James Lewis Jr. led the Mountaineers with 15 points.
  • Donovan Gregory added 11 points and 9 rebounds.
