Second Half Propels Pride Over Pacers

GREENSBORO, NC -- William Peace University men's soccer fell to Greensboro College in a physical contest. The Pacers led 2-1 at halftime after goalkeeper Jacob Smith made an excellent save on a penalty kick opportunity. The Pride would score two goals in the second half to lead, including a penalty kick goal.

HOW IT HAPPENED
In the first half, the Pride would start strong by putting a few shots up, with William Curry finding the back of the net at 7:22 to give the Pride an early 1-0 lead. The Pacers would battle back as Jorge Aguilar would even the score 1-1 at 14:03. The game would prove to be a physical battle, with the Pacers putting several shots up. Some traffic out in front would create an opportunity for WPU, with pressure from Ivan Ponce breaking down the Pride defense as they would score an own goal to bring the score to 2-1 in favor of the Pacers. A foul in the box would give the Pride a penalty kick opportunity, but Jacob Smith would make an excellent save on Jordy Briceno to send the Pacers into halftime leading 2-1.

In the second half, Ivan Ponce would get a good chance early in, but the Pride goalkeeper would keep him off the scoresheet. A physical game would see the Pride gaining another penalty kick opportunity at 64:29, and Darli Mihindou would just barely find a way past Smith to even the score 2-2. The Pride would score after a corner kick at 77:18 to take a 3-2 lead. The Pacers would have several good chances near the end of the game, but they were unable to convert and would fall 3-2 to the Pride.
