Pacers Draw With Cougars

CARY, NC -- William Peace University men's soccer tied Averett University 2-2 after two overtime periods. The Cougars would get on the board first late in the first half to lead at halftime, but a goal from Ivan Ponce would tie it 1-1 early in the second half. The cougars would take a late 2-1 lead in the second half, but a goal from Jorge Lemus, assisted by Jorge Aguilar, would tie the game late 2-2.

HOW IT HAPPENED
The Cougars would start out with early possession in the first half, but Jorge Aguilar would get the first opportunity at 18:08. Goalkeeper Tyler Yates would keep the Pacers off the scoreboard, making another save on Andres Lopez at 29:33. Neither team would get much going until 43:00, when Averett's Alexander Soerensen would find the back of the net, assisted by Oliver Kousholt, to head into halftime leading 1-0.

Just 27 seconds into the second half, Ivan Ponce would even the score as he forced a turnover and tucked one away to tie the game 1-1. Ponce would nearly score again at 59:58, getting off two shots - the first would be saved by Yates and the second would just be cleared off the line by the Cougars. At 78:16, Orion Mills would get past the Pacer defense to put the Cougars in the lead 2-1. However, the Pacers would continue to put shots up, and Jorge Lemus would score after a service by Jorge Aguilar to tie the game 2-2 and send it to overtime.

Neither team would get many chances in the first overtime period as play would go back-and-forth. In the second overtime period, Ivan Ponce and Jorge Aguilar would both have good chances, but Tyler Yates would keep the Pacers from scoring and the game would end tied 2-2.
