Pacers Use Second Half Surge To Rally Past Pride

Raleigh, NC -- William Peace University men's basketball team went head-to-head with Greensboro College as they won game two of the series by a score of 93-92. The Pride led in the first half, but John Burwell and Jalen Owens would lead the Pacers in a strong second half to secure the 93-92 win.

HOW IT HAPPENED 
  • John Burwell would start the Pacers off as he drove in the paint to put the team up 2-0. Smith Gupton would add a shot from behind the arc to put the Pacers in the lead 5-4. The Pride would go on an 11-point run to take an 18-7 advantage. Jalen Owens would bring the Pacers into double-digits with a 3-point shot as they trailed 20-12.
  • Owens would add another shot from behind the arc and a few shots from the foul line to close the gap as the Pacers continued to trail 37-26 in the first half. Donolly Tyrell Jr., Tyler Parton, and John Burwell would all make consecutive drives under the net as WPU would make a few good stops in an attempt to close the gap, while a layup by Burwell would send the Pacers into halftime trailing by just 45-39.
  • Burwell and Owens would keep the momentum going at the start of the second half to bring the Pacers within just two 45-43. Ti'Quan Whitmore and Cole Atwood would hit consecutive 3-pointers, with Atwood adding another moments later and Burwell driving in the paint to tie the game 58-58. Burwell would add another layup to give the Pacers a 60-58 lead, while Beau Bryant's shot from behind the arc would put the team up 63-60.
  • The Pride would tie the game 69-69, with Cole Atwood's 3-point shot giving the Pacers a 72-69 advantage moments later. Both teams would fight hard, trading the lead back-and-forth. A jumper by John Burwell would again give WPU an 84-82 edge, while a few free throws by Donolly Tyrell Jr. and Burwell would put them up 89-86. Tyler Parton would add a layup, while a free throw by Donolly Tyrell Jr. would secure the 93-92 win for the Pacers.

  • John Burwell had a total of 30 points as he went from 12 for 25 on the field and 6-7 from the foul line.
  • Jalen Owens tallied 19 total points.
FOR THE FOES
  • Greyson Collins led Greensboro College with 33 points while adding 7 rebounds.
