Pacers Fall To NCWC

Box Score Raleigh, NC -- William Peace University men's basketball fell 100-74 to NC Wesleyan on February 5th. NCWC took an early lead in the first half and kept the momentum going throughout the game to keep the Pacers at bay.

THE BASICS
  • Final score: William Peace 74, NCWC 100
  • Records: William Peace (2-5, 1-4), NCWC (7-3, 4-0)
  • Location: Rocky Mount, NC
HOW IT HAPPENED
  • NC Wesleyan would gain early momentum as they would take an early 8-2 lead over the Pacers. John Burwell would help the Pacers cut the NCWC lead as he would make a few free throws to bring the score to 9-4. A shot from behind the arc by Beau Bryant would keep the Pacers in the game as they trailed 13-7, but the Battling Bishops would respond with a 3-point shot of their own to take a 16-7 advantage.
  • The NCWC offense would not let up as the Pacers struggled to find a groove. Jalen Owens and Donolly Tyrell Jr. would add consecutive points, with Beau Bryant adding another 3-pointer as the team trailed 22-14. John Burwell and Bryant would trade back-to-back 3-point shots, but the Pacers would have trouble getting defensive stops, heading into halftime trailing 52-31.
  • John Burwell would open up the second half with a drive under the net, while Jalen Owens would add a shot from behind the arc as the Pacers attempted to cut the NCWC lead. Beau Bryant would drain another 3-pointer, but the Battling Bishops would not give up any ground as they gained a 70-48 advantage over the Pacers. Damon McDowell would take advantage of back-to-back shots from behind the arc to give NCWC a 78-50 lead.
  • Beau Bryant and John Burwell would continue to lead the Pacers offensively in the remaining minutes of the game, with Bryant driving to the net and adding a point from the foul line as the Pacers trailed 89-65.
PACER TOP PERFORMERS FOR THE FOES
  • Damon McDowell recorded 38 points for NCWC, shooting 10-20 from the field and 7-11 from the 3-point line.
  • Tim Pettiford added 16 points and 7 rebounds.
STATS OF THE GAME
  • The Pacers shot at 43.9% from the field in comparison to NCWC's 47.1%
  • WPU grabbed 27 boards in comparison to NCWC's 51.
