Pacers Fall Short In First Game Of Series Against Pride

Raleigh, NC -- William Peace University Men's basketball team fell to Greensboro College in a close game by a score of 86-81. The game was a hard-fought game as both teams went back-in-forth in scoring points. The Pacers would keep the score close in each half, but the Pride were able to gain advantage from their field shooting to take the win. 

THE BASICS

HOW IT HAPPENED 
  • Jalen Owens would make two three pointers early on to give WPU an early 6-4 lead. Greensboro would fight back to take a 12-9 lead as they gained some momentum. John Burwell would add a layup to bring the Pacers closer as they trailed 19-13.
  • At the end of the first half, Greensboro was able to extend their lead to 20-13, eventually taking a 29-13 advantage over the Pacers. John Burwell would add a jumper for his 9th point to close the gap to 29-15, with Darius Jackson's layup bring the score to 29-17. Jackson would add a shot from behind the arc to bring the Pacers within ten as the trailed 34-24, but the Pride offense would continue to roll and they would head into halftime leading 42-35.
  • At the beginning of the second half, John Burwell and Jalen Owens had consecutive shots from behind the arc to bring the Pacers within 4 points as they trailed 47-43. Burwell would notch his 20th point as he drove under the net to further close the gap as the Pride held a slight 48-47 lead. The Pride would take advantage of the foul line to regain a wider gap, with Jalen Owens and Cole Atwood keeping WPU in the game as the team trailed 57-53.
  • Donolly Tyrell Jr. would drive to the net as the Pride continued to take advantage of their free throw opportunities, leading the pacers 64-57 with 9:20 remaining. John Burwell would drain a 3-point shot as the Pacers trailed 66-60. Tyler Parton's shot from behind the arc would put the Pacers within two, while John Burwell would tie things up 73-73. The Pride would then go on a 7-point run, giving them a 80-73 lead and eventually securing the 86-81 win,

  • John Burwell had a total of 27 points as he shot 61.6% from the field.
  • Jalen Owens added 16 points, while Tyler Parton added 13 points.
FOR THE FOES
  • Greyson Collins had 25 points and 7 rebounds.
  • Ty Hill added 18 points.

  • The Pacers shot at 38.2 from the field.
