Pacers Come Up Short Against NC Wesleyan

Raleigh, NC -- William Peace University women's basketball team fell to NC Wesleyan in a close contest by a score of 62-59. The game was a back-and-forth with neither team gaining much momentum over the other. The Pacers would get ahead near the end of the fourth quarter due to some shots from the foul line, the Battling Bishops were able to capitalize on their own shots from the foul line to take the win.

HOW IT HAPPENED 
  • Sydney Austin would make a great play under the basket and to tie the game 2-2 early on. The Pacers took the lead at the 6 minute mark with a score of 7-5 with a drive by Jaymesha Sanders. NCWC would take an 13-9 lead as they gained some momentum, but a 3-pointer by Faith Resto would regain the Pacer lead with a score of 15-13.
  • The two teams were evenly matched as the second quarter began, with neither able to get a lot of momentum going early on. The Monarchs would press ahead to lead 28-21. A 3-pointer by Lauryn Cross would close the gap as WPU trailed 28-24, with Kiera Williams and Stephanie Chandler closing the gap even further as the Pacers trailed 30-28 heading into halftime.
  • The third quarter started out with a quick drive from NCWC by Keorra Taylor, with the team gaining some traction to lead 36-28 over WPU. At the 5 minute mark Alysiah Taylor drove under the net to get the Pacers going 38-38. The Bishops quickly fought back and gained more ground to lead 43-38, ending the third quarter leading 47-41.
  • The fourth quarter started with a layup from Lauryn Cross as the Pacers trailed 43-47. Faith Resto's layup would bring the Pacers within one as they trailed 53-52. With a few foul shots made by the Pacers in the final minute they pulled ahead with a score of 59-58, but NCWC would tally two foul shots to give them a 60-59 lead, eventually winning 62-59.

  • Cydney Nichols tallied 14 points.
  • Myrayna Watkins recorded a double-double with ten points and ten rebounds.
