Cross and Resto Lead Pacers Past Mary Baldwin In Game One Of Series

Raleigh, NC -- William Peace University women's basketball team defeated Mary Baldwin University 104-82. The Pacers took the lead in the first quarter and played hard, putting up an offensive battle to take the win over the Fighting Squirrels.

HOW IT HAPPENED 
  • Pamela Mock would start the Pacers off with a good jumper to tie it up 2-2 early in the first quarter. As the first quarter continued, Cierra Baker put the Pacers in the lead with a 3-pointer, putting the Pacers up 11-9. Kiera Williams would add a few shots from the foul line to put the Pacers up 19-11, while Lauryn Cross ended the first quarter with a good jumper, keeping the Pacers in the lead 24-18.
  • As the second quarter started, Jaymesha Sanders started off the game with a nice steal. Faith Resto made three back-to-back 3-pointers in the second half continuing the lead against MBU as the team led 40-18. Sydney Austin would add a few shots from the foul line, while Cross would drive to the net to end the second half with the Pacers leading 52-29.
  • The third quarter started out with Sydney Austin making a good jumper leaving a 54-34 gap between the two teams. Tatianna Occena's jumper put the Pacers in the lead with 64-40. The Pacer defense held strong as Stephanie Chandler drove under the net to put WPU in the lead 72-43, with the team heading into the final quarter leading 76-50.
  • The fourth quarter started out with a good jumper from Alyisah Taylor. Lauryn Cross made a good layup while coming down the court at high speed putting the Pacers at 80-51. As the fourth quarter continued, Kiera Williams and Sydney Austin made all their free throws putting the Pacers at 92-65. The Pacers ended the game with 104-82 against MBU.
