Pacers Fall To NC Wesleyan In First Match-Up Of The Weekend

Raleigh, NC -- William Peace University women's basketball fell to NC Wesleyan 82-62. The Monarchs jumped to an early lead and continued to challenge the Pacer defense, leading 55-27 at the half. The Pacers would push back in the fourth quarter but would be unable to make up the deficit and would fall 82-62.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The Pacers began the match by winning the tip, with Jaymesha Sanders making the first basket for the Pacers to bring the score to 5-2 as they trailed the Battling Bishops early. Wesleyan continued their lead, gaining a 3-pointer from Javan Jones to bring the score to 13-2. A few turnovers would lead the Pacers into trouble, with the first quarter ending with NCWC leading with a score of 34-13.
  • The second quarter started out with NCWC continuing their offensive push. Wesleyan continued to grab fouls from under the basket, adding extra points to the board as the Pacer offense was unable to find a spark. The second quarter ended with a score of 55-27 still in favor of the Battling Bishops.
  • The third quarter began with a wide open layup by NCWC after a turnover. The Pacers were able to pull out a few foul shots, with Alysiah Taylor taking a turn and hitting both of her free throws. The Pacers began a streak at the 1:37 min mark with a run of 14 points, beginning to shorten the distance between the two teams. The third quarter ended with a score of 68-47 with the Pacers still trailing.
  • The final quarter started out with a bit of a back-and-forth as the Pacer offense began to challenge the Battling Bishops. NCWC retaliated with 2 quick points, bumping up their lead. During this quarter the Pacers began to shorten the lead, with Lauryn Cross and Sydney Austin attempting to close the gap, but the Pacers would ultimately fall 82-62.

FOR THE FOES
  • Kayla Johnson led Wesleyan with a total of 18 points. 
  • Kayrisma Harrison added 14 points, while Cydney Nicholas added 13.

  • The Pacers shot at 34.4% from the field.
