Cross Leads Pacers To Commanding 101-55 Win As She Records New Career High

Raleigh, NC -- William Peace University women's basketball defeated Averett University in their season opener by an impressive 101-55 margin. Lauryn Cross contributed a notable 38 points as the Pacers led 47-29 at the half, recording a new single-game career high. Stephanie Chandler would make the final drive under the net to send the team into triple digits and secure the 101-55 win. This win was also Head Coach Marquetta Dickens' debut with the Pacers.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Lauryn Cross would notch the first points of the game with a drive under the net and a few shots from the foul line for a 4-0 Pacer lead. Cierra Baker would add two consecutive layups to give the team an 8-4 advantage. Sydney Austin and Stephanie Chandler would keep the offense going to increase the Pacer lead to 17-9, while an impressive buzzer beater by Maria Devincenzo would give them a 21-9 lead heading into the 2nd quarter.
  • In the second quarter, Jaymesha Sanders would get the offense going with a jumper, with a fastbreak in the paint by Sydney Austin bringing the score to 29-17. Another fastbreak by Maria Devincenzo would increase lead to 33-17, with Alysiah Taylor giving the team a 20-point lead 37-17. Pamela Mock would add a few key free throws, with Lauryn Cross closing out the first half to send the team into halftime leading 47-29.
  • Cross would continue the third quarter on a hot streak with several consecutive fastbreaks to give WPU a 58-36 edge. Mariah Partin's shots from the foul line would increase the lead to 24 points, while a shot from behind the arc by Maria Devincenzo would bring the score to 65-40. Jaymesha Sanders would drive under the net at the end of the third to give the Pacers a 72-45 lead.
  • Sydney Austin would start things off in the fourth quarter, with a jumper by Tatianna Occena increasing the Pacer lead to 77-45. Cross would add a few back-to-back 3-pointers, with Occena adding her own shot from behind the arc to bring the score to 90-51. Stephanie Chandler would notch the final two points of the game to lock up the 101-55 win for the Pacers.

  • Lauryn Cross led the team with an impressive 38 points as she shot 14-22 from the field and 7-7 from the foul line.
  • Jaymesha Sanders led the team with 17 rebounds while also tallying 8 points.
FOR THE FOES
  • Camryn Lunsford led the Cougars with 15 points as she shot 7-15 from the field.
  • Natija Pate grabbed 6 boards and 8 points.
