Pacers Fall Late To Panthers In Close Contest

Raleigh, NC -- William Peace University men's basketball fell to Ferrum College 76-73 in a closely-contested matchup. The Pacers led 40-39 after the first half, but the Panthers pushed back to take the lead near the end of the game.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Ferrum took an early 5-0 lead after a few good shots from the foul line by James Smith Jr. Jalen Owens would put up the first points for WPU as his three-point shot would bring the score to 5-3. A jumper by John Burwell would tie it up 7-7, with a layup by Burwell again tying the score at 11-11.
  • Burwell would add another two points to give the Pacers a 13-11 lead. The Pacers would start to pull away near the end of the 1st half as a shot from behind the arc by Cole Atwood gave the Pacers a 27-21 lead. Donolly Tyrell Jr. kept the Pacers in the lead 33-32 with a shot from the foul line, while Tyler Parton's late 3 point shot would send the Pacers into halftime leading 40-39
  • The Pacers would pull away in the beginning of the second half as John Burwell would add several shots from the foul line as they lead 51-41. Jalen Owens would give the Pacers a 57-45 lead with a shot from behind the arc.
  • Beau Bryant's 3-point shot would bring the score to 60-48. The Panthers would push back at the end of the second half, as a shot from behind the arc by Nick Helton would bring them within one 70-69. Kajuan Madden-McAfee would put the Panthers in the lead 72-70, and they would go on to secure a 76-73 win over the Pacers.
PACER TOP PERFORMERS FOR THE FOES
  • Nick Helton led the Panthers with 22 points as he went 46.2% from the field.
  • James Smith Jr. tallied 20 points.
STATS OF THE GAME
  • The Panthers shot at 43.1% from the field in comparison to the Pacers 41.0%.
