Burwell Records 34 Points In 93-85 Win Over Ferrum

Raleigh, NC -- William Peace University men's basketball defeated Ferrum College by a score of 93-85 for their first win of the season. The Pacers led 47-40 at halftime, with senior John Burwell recording an impressive 34 points in the game to secure the victory. The Pacers now hold an overall record of (1-1).

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • John Burwell would get the Pacers on the board first as he went under the net to give WPU an early 2-0 lead. Burwell would notch several early points, but the Panthers would push back to take a 12-7 lead. Darius Jackson would cut the lead down to two with a shot from behind the arc, while a few shots from the foul line by Donolly Tyrell Jr. and Jalen Owens would give WPU a 17-16 lead.
  • The Panthers would regain a 21-18 lead over the Pacers, but a 3-pointer by Smith Gupton would tie it up at 21-21. Tyler Parton would add his own shot from behind the arc to give WPU a 24-21 advantage. The Panthers would test the Pacers late in the first half, tying it back up at 30 and eventually taking a 38-34 lead. Burwell and Owens would combine to retake the Pacer lead, with Burwell's 3-point shot sending WPU into halftime leading 47-40.
  • Tyler Parton would start things off for the Pacers in the second half with his shot from behind the arc giving the team a 50-43 edge. Cole Atwood would add a few points in the paint, with Burwell continuing to have an impressive game and leading the Pacers to a ten-point lead 60-50. A drive by Beau Bryant would increase the lead to 66-54.
  • Bryant would add to the Pacer lead again with a 3-point shot, with Burwell adding his own to bring the score to 75-60. The final minutes of the game would see the Pacers adding several points from the foul line as the Panthers pushed back, but WPU would take the 93-85 win.

  • John Burwell led the Pacers with an impressive 34 points, shooting 13-19 from the field.
  • Donolly Tyrell Jr. led the team defensively with 8 rebounds while also adding 15 points.
FOR THE FOES
  • Kajuan Madden-McAfee led the Panthers with 21 points as he went 3-4 from the 3-point line.
  • Darius Kemp recorded a double-double with ten points and ten rebounds.
