Pacers Fall to Averett in USA South Action

The William Peace University women's basketball team fell to Averett University by a score of (80-68). The Cougars jumped out to an early lead in the first quarter (20-11) and continued to control the game into the half (41-24). Jaymesha Sanders was vital to the Pacer offense as she tallied 20 points, but the Cougars would not let up as they went on to win (80-68).

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • In the first quarter, the Cougars would get out to an early lead as Courtney Scott would put them up (3-0) with a shot from behind the arc. A 3-pointer by Lauryn Cross would give WPU a (7-5) lead, but Averett would quickly tie the game and take back the lead. A 3-pointer by Genesis Weiters would bring the score to (20-11) in favor of the Cougars. Courtney Scott would tally 15 points just in the first quarter as the Cougars led (27-14) heading into the second quarter.
  • Jaymesha Sanders would get the game rolling for the Pacers in the second quarter with a drive under the net as the Pacers trailed (27-16). A couple of made free throws by Khadijah Daniels would bring Averett's down just 10 points (28-18). Averett's Ravyn Johnson would tally two consecutive layups to give the Cougars a (32-20) advantage. The Pacer offense struggled a bit in the second quarter and would head into halftime trailing (41-24).
  • Jaymesha Sanders would give the Pacers some life as her jumper brought the score to (41-27). Khadijah Daniels would tally several points, including a 3-pointer to close the gap as the Pacers trailed (43-32). Jaymesha Sanders would add her own shot from behind the arc as Averett continued to lead (48-37). A few made free throws by Kiera Williams would bring the Pacers back within ten (57-47), and they would head into the fourth quarter trailing (58-49).
  • A drive under the net by Jaymesha Sanders early in the fourth quarter would cut the Cougar lead to (58-51). Sanders would add another layup to bring the score to (64-55). A jumper by Lauryn Cross would keep the score differential at just ten points as WPU trailed (67-57). Sanders would continue to roll for the Pacers as her shot from behind the arc brought the score to (69-60). Despite some good pressure from the Pacers, the Cougar offense continued to control the game and secured the win (80-68) 
PACER TOP PERFORMERS FOR THE FOES
  • Courtney Scott led the Cougars with 28 points while also adding 8 boards.
  • Ravyn Johnson and Camryn Lunsford each tallied 14 points for the Cougars.
STATS OF THE GAME
  • The Pacers shot at 31.3 % from the field in comparison to the Cougars 50%
  • Averett collected 42 boards in comparison to WPU's 34.
