Pacers Split Series With #12 Lynchburg


The William Peace University softball team split a double-header (1-1) with the #12 ranked University of Lynchburg.

HOW IT HAPPENED
GAME ONE
Both teams would start off slowly in game one as a battle between pitchers Katherine Murphy and Alex Cisar kept the score at (0-0). Murphy would tally two strikeouts in the bottom of the first. The Pacers would get caught in a double play at the top of the second and were unable to score. The Hornets would get 2 runs in the bottom of the second to take a (2-0) lead. The Pacers answered at the top of the fourth as Lauren Conway's double would score Abbi Colclough to bring the score to (2-1). Despite some good chances by both sides, neither team would add anymore to the score and Lynchburg would take game one (2-1).
 
GAME TWO
 Game two would prove to be an even closer matchup, with both teams struggling to connect in the first inning. The Pacers would leave three on base in the top of the second as the Lynchburg defense got out of a tough jam, but the Pacer defense would come out hot and keep Lynchburg off the score sheet. Pitchers Danielle Hunt and Michelle Lehan would battle, with Hunt tallying 5 strikeouts in 6.1 innings. Kristina Mojica would breakthrough for WPU with a single to score Candice Smith at the top of the sixth for a (1-0) lead. McKenzie Ward and Kiley Martinez would close the game out on the mound for the Pacers to secure the (1-0) win.

PACER TOP PERFORMERS
  • Katherine Murphy pitched 5 innings in game one, allowing 6 hits and recording 4 strikeouts.
  • Lauren Conway tallied the lone RBI for WPU in game one.
  • Danielle Hunt was on the mound for 6.1 innings in game two, allowing 7 hits, no runs, and tallying 5 strikeouts.
  • Kristina Mojica recorded 1 RBI in game two to secure the win for the Pacers.

FOR THE FOES
  • Kayley Cox was on the mound for 3 innings in game one as she allowed 3 hits and tallied 3 strikeouts. 
  • Michelle Lehan pitched the entirety of game two, recording 2 strikeouts.
