Raleigh, NC-- The William Peace Men's Soccer team defeated Mary Baldwin 3-0 at home on September 28th in a USA South Conference matchup. The Pacers now improve to a record of 5-2-2 overall and 3-1-1 in conference.
In the first half, the Pacers and the Fighting Squirrels battled back-and-forth with possession. In the 5th minute of the match, Ivan Ponce got a ball down the right side of the field and used his speed to beat Mary Baldwin's defense, scoring on his own rebound to give the Pacers a 1-0 lead. The Pacers kept the pressure going and a nice pass from Osciel Dominguez found Ivan Ponce on a breakaway, with Ponce finishing the play to notch his 2nd goal of the match. Mary Baldwin had a couple of opportunities on the offensive end, but the Pacers defense held them back. The Pacers would head in halftime leading 2-0.
In the second half, the Pacers again came out strong with a goal from Jose Aguirre just six minutes in with an assist from Osciel Dominguez. The rest of the second half would be a back-and-forth battle. The Fighting Squirrels would get two good scoring opportunities at 60:09 and 62:37 but Jacob Smith was strong in net and kept the Pacers with a three goal lead. The Pacers defense would be solid the rest of the half and would not give the Fighting Squirrels any other solid opportunities and would secure the Pacers win 3-0.

The William Peace men's soccer team heads to Berea College (3-8) on October 3rd for a midweek USA South Conference matchup. Kickoff is scheduled for 6:30 p.m.
