Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Pacers shut-out the Mountaineers in close win

Berea, KY -- The William Peace University men's soccer team defeated Berea College 1-0 on Thursday, October 3rd in a USA South Conference game. The Pacers now improve to a record of 6-2-2 overall and 4-1-1 in the conference.

The first half was a defensive battle for both teams. Freshman Osciel Dominguez would get the first chance of the match at 3:38, but Berea's Noah DeHart would make a quick save. DeHart would come up with another save at 27:34 on a shot from sophomore Jose Aguirre. The Pacers continued to control possession but were unable to get the offense going and the game would head into halftime tied at zero.

Freshman Peter Darden and Osciel Dominguez would start off the second half for the Pacers with shots at 46:03 and 51:21, but neither found a way past DeHart. In the 61st minute of the second half, WPU would find a way to break the stalemate when junior Jose Garcia corralled the rebound off of sophomore Jorge Aguilar's free kick, which would give WPU a 1-0 lead. The Pacers held the Mountaineer offense from any shot attempts, and after dominating possession the Pacers locked the game up 1-0 over Berea College.

What's Next
William Peace Men's Soccer will take on Averett College(3-8) in another USA South Conference game, this time at home at WakeMed Soccer complex in Cary on October 8th.  Kickoff is scheduled for 7 p.m., so be sure to head out to Cary to support your Pacers!
