Raleigh, NC -- The William Peace University men's soccer team fell to the Cougars of Averett University 1-0. The Pacers now have a record of 6-3-2 and 4-2-1 in the USA South Conference.
The Pacers would start off the game strong with a shot from
Osciel Dominguez at 3:37 followed by a shot from
Jorge Aguilar at 6:13, both going wide. The Cougars Erik Blick would find the back of the net at 8:39 on a header assisted by Bradley Bizzell. Within minutes after at 10:15 Nademe Tokhil would take a header shot of his own but it would be saved by keeper Colton Dutchess. The Pacers would take another 10 shots in the last 35 minutes to Averett's one but none would find the back of the net. Averett held the 1-0 lead heading into halftime.
In the second half the Pacers would come out strong yet again with shots right away from
Sammy Suazo and
Ivan Ponce at the 46:22 and 47:14 marks.
Anthony Chavez would get a good opportunity at 54:08, but Dutchess was quick in net to keep the Cougars in the lead.
Osciel Dominguez and
Ivan Ponce would both get chances at 65:17 and 66:04 but were unable to convert.
Jorge Aguilar would get the last opportunity of the game at 84:13, but WPU would ultimately fall 1-0 to the Cougars.
