Sweet Briar, VA -- The William Peace University women's soccer team defeated Sweet Briar College by a score of 7-0. The Pacers now improve to a record of 3-4-1. The victory also marks WPU's first win on the road this season.
Freshman
Rachel Alford would start up the Pacer offense early in the first half as she took a shot that pressured keeper Sammy Holton to make a quick save at 2:50. Freshman
Lillian Bates notched her first collegiate goal at 6:19 - assisted by freshman
Raine Greene - to give WPU an early 1-0 lead. Greene would contribute to the Pacer lead less than a minute later to make it 2-0. WPU continued to control play in the Sweet Briar end, and
Lillian Bates would score on a shot in the left corner for her second of the night and a 3-0 Pacer lead.
Raine Greene would add another 2 quick goals at 34:40 and 38:11 to complete a hat trick and increase the Pacer lead to 5-0. The Pacers commanded possession and restrained the Vixen offense as they led 5-0 heading into halftime.
In the second half, both teams brought in new keepers, as Mackenzie Jones took over for
Kasey Wilkins, while Maddie Wine came in for Sammy Holt.
Rachel Alford struck first for the Pacers at 50:45, finding the back of the net to give WPU a 6-0 advantage. Alford would add another goal at 69:17 to bring the Pacer lead up to 7-0. The Vixens were unable to challenge the Pacer defense, and WPU would win the game 7-0.
