Cary, NC--- The William Peace University women's soccer team was back in action on September 21st, where they won 1-0 over Brevard College. The Pacers now hold a 2-3-1 record.
In the first half of the game, sophomore
Grace Marion for the Pacers put pressure on the Brevard defense with an early shot on goal. Brevard had several chances to get the ball deep into the Pacer defense but were called for offsides multiple times. Keeper
Kasey Wilkins was busy in net as she came up with big saves at 25:29, 33:37, and 44:02 to keep the score tied at zero.
Rachel Alford had multiple chances to score in the first half but one sailed wide and one was saved by Brevard Keeper Rebecca Rojas. Her offensive chances led the Pacers into the locker room with confidence for the second half.Â
The second half started out in favor of the Pacers. At 50:36, the Pacers drove down field and a shot on goal ended up deflecting off a Tornado player's leg into the goal. This was an unfortunate bounce for the Tornados but put the Pacers on top (1-0). In the second half, the Pacers out-shot the Tornados five to four and were fouled seven times. Although the Tornados trailed in the second half, they continued to put pressure on the Pacer offense.
Makenzie Jones was solid in net for the 2nd half, helping her team to a big Pacer win.Â
