Harrisonburg, VA -- The William Peace University men's soccer team fell to Eastern Mennonite University on Sunday, September 1st after lightning forced the game to be rescheduled. The Pacers now hold a record of 1-1-0.

The Royals would gain early momentum in the first half as they bore down on the Pacer defense. EMU quickly scored twice before the thirteen minute mark, both goals coming after corner kicks. Pacer keeper Dillon Garbrandt was strong between the posts at 26' as EMU's Andy Chappell Deckert was left alone in front of the net. WPU struggled to maintain possession against a strong Royal offense and would head into halftime trailing 2-0.

In the second half, the Pacer offense would come out strong. Freshman Angel Ramirez would put a shot in the top left at 56', forcing EMU goalie Ahmed Zaatar to make a quick save. Sophomore Jorge Aguilar would nearly score for the Pacers at 63', with junior Jose Garcia's rebound hitting the crossbar. Freshman Kofi Appiagyei found the back of the net just a few minutes later, cutting EMU's lead to 2-1. Unfortunately, the Pacers were unable to recover from the first half, and fell to the Royals 2-1.

- Kyle Shelton and Gabe Nafziger each scored for the Royals.
- Ahmed Zaatar recorded 6 saves for the Royals.
WHAT'S NEXT:
The Pacers head to Greensboro, NC on September 7th to face Guilford College. The Quakers are currently 1-0-0 after a 3-1 victory over Averett University. Kickoff begins at 6 p.m.
