Danville, VA -- The William Peace University women's volleyball started their season off with a 3-1 win against Southern Virginia University in the Averett Cougar Classic, improving to a 1-0 record.

In set one, freshman Paige Emore and senior Mya Parks would get the Pacers up to an early 2-0 lead. WPU and SVU would battle back and forth for most of the first set, but the Pacers would put the pressure on to take an 18-12 lead. The Knights battled back to take a late 23-22 lead, but the Pacers would win the set 27-25 on a service ace from senior Sarah Scott

Set two would see the Pacers struggle as the Knights took a commanding 15-6 lead. WPU would get within 5 on a kill from junior Abby Benton for a score of 20-15, but they would only put one more point on the board before dropping set two 25-16.

In set three, the Knights would again take an early lead, at one point leading 14-8. However, the Pacers would continue to push throughout the set, with Mya Parks tying it up 21-21. WPU would go on to win the set 25-23 on another kill from Abby Benton.

The fourth and final set saw the Pacers take a controlling 7-1 lead on a play from junior Bergin Gillespie. A late push by the Knights wouldn't be enough, and the Pacers would take the set 25-13 on a service ace from junior Brittany Carpenter to win the match 3-1.
