Pacers Advance to Quarterfinals as They Down Meredith College

The Basics:

  • Final Score: William Peace 78 Meredith 74

  • Records: William Peace 16-10 USA South 11-5 , Meredith 7-19 USA South 7-9

  • Location: Raleigh, NC -- Hermann Athletic Center

How it Happened:

  • Kimberly Schuh would get the scoring started for the Angels with a free throw and a layup to put the Angels up 3-0.

  • Mariah Ballen and Eva Holloway would lead the Pacers on a 6-0 run and help give the Pacers their first lead of the game (9-8) with 2:44 remaining in the first quarter.

  • In the last two minutes of the first quarter the Angels would score five to the Pacers two which would give them the 13-11 lead going into the second quarter.

  • A three pointer from Manazia Merriett in the second minute of the second quarter would tie up the game at 13-13.

  • Unfortunately the Angels would pull away again going on a 5-0 run to put them up 18-13 with seven minutes remaining in the second quarter.

  • The Pacers would come within two 1:25 remaining in the second quarter but missed shots from the Pacers would allow the Angels to go into halftime with a six point lead.

  • A back to back technical foul and personal foul on the Pacers would help bring the Angels to their largest lead of the game at that point (38-27) with just under seven minutes remaining in the third quarter.

  • The Pacers would go on a 7-0 run to tie the game up 41-41 with 3:13 remaining in the third quarter. The Pacers would be unable to take the lead but would continue to stay in the game.

  • Shania Taylor would have her second huge three pointer with 1:26 remaining in the third quarter to tie the game up yet again.

  • Khadijah Daniels would make a layup with 8:41 remaining in the fourth quarter to give the Pacers their first lead since late in the first quarter.

  • Baskets would continue to be traded back and forth between the two teams but seven points from Khadijah Daniels in two minutes alone would help keep the Pacers alive and would bring the Pacers within one (70-69) with just over two minutes remaining in the game.

  • Mariah Ballen would make a huge layup and draw a foul to tie the game back up at 74-74 with :47 seconds remaining in the game.

  • The Pacers would go on a 9-0 run in the last minute and a half to take the lead and secure the win.

Pacer Top Performers:

For the Foes:

  • Kimberly Schuh finished with a game high 32 points.

  • Trinity Packer had a double-double with 11 points and 12 rebounds.

  • Caroline Coleman had 12 points and 5 assists.

Stats of the Game:

  • The Pacers shot 43.3% from the field to the Angels 55.6%.

  • The Pacers would win the turnover battle only committing 12 to the Angels 22.

  • The Angels would outrebound the Pacers 36-28.

What's Next?

The William Peace Pacers Women's Basketball team will take on the number two seed in the West, Berea College in the quarterfinals of USA South conference play on Saturday, February 16th. Tip-off is scheduled for 2:00 pm in Berea, Kentucky. This is the first time the Pacers have ever made it past the first round of conference playoffs.
