Pacers Drop Crosstown Battle To The Falcons

THE BASICS
  • Final score: William Peace 69, St. Augustine's University 66
  • Records: William Peace (5-2) St. Augustine's (3-2)
  • Location: Raleigh, NC

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The first quarter was a defensive battle as neither team could gain any traction early. Mariah Partin would get on the board for WPU first as they trailed (4-2). The Falcons would then go on a run to take an (8-2) lead before a layup by Jaymesha Sanders cut the lead (8-4). A free throw by Sydney Austin and a 3-pointer by Lauryn Cross would tie the game (8-8), while a few more free throws by Austin would give WPU a (10-8) advantage. The first quarter would end with the Pacers holding a (13-12) lead over the Falcons.
  • The Pacers would continue to hold a (17-14) lead before the Falcons put several points on the board to take a (20-17) lead. Lauryn Cross would make two shots from the foul line as WPU trailed (22-19). The Pacers struggled a bit in the second quarter, and St. Augustine's would head into halftime with a (37-26) advantage.
  • Lauryn Cross would open the scoring immediately in the third quarter with a shot from behind the arch as WPU trailed (37-29). The Falcons would go on a run before Cross hit another 3 as the Pacers trailed by 10 (42-32). A few free throws by Mikayla Ray would put WPU within 8 (48-40), but the Falcons continued to hold an advantage heading into the fourth quarter (53-41).
  • The Pacers put on the pressure in the final quarter as Jaymesha Sanders brought the score to (53-43) with a few successful free throw attempts. WPU continued to cut the Falcon lead (59-53) as Sanders continued to be good from the foul line. Mikayla Ray brought the Pacers within 3 (61-59). Lauryn Cross would drain another 3 as the Pacers trailed (67-64) with less than a minute remaining. The Falcons would manage to hold off a surging Pacer offense to win the game (69-66).

PACER TOP PERFORMERS
  • Lauryn Cross led the Pacers with 19 points as she shot 37.5% from the field and 44.4% from behind the arch.
  • Mikayla Ray had 7 steals and 4 rebounds for WPU.

FOR THE FOES
  • Kaaliya Williams led the Falcons with 14 points.
  • Quiera Gilmore tallied 10 points for St. Augustine's.

STATS OF THE GAME
  • The Falcons shot at 42.6% from the field and tallied 49 rebounds.
  • WPU was 91.2% from the foul line and had 20 steals.

NEXT GAME
