Men's Basketball Falls 89-78 after Second Half Surge from Seahawks

The Basics:

Final Score: William Peace 78, St.Mary's College of Maryland 89

Records: WPU (0-5) SMCM (2-3)

How it Happened

  • In the first half, the Pacers started off strong on offense as they would hit five 3-pointers early on to give them a 15-8 lead.

  •  The Seahawks would answer with a 8-0 run capped off by a 3-pointer from Jalen Hayes. The Seahawks would take a 19-18 lead before the under 12 media timeout.

  • The Pacers would take back the lead off a jumper form Mikal Gaylord. The Seahawks would quickly regain the lead at 21-20. Cam Ferguson would hit back-to-back 3-pointers for William Peace. The Seahawks hit a pair of free-throws as the Pacers led 26-23 at the 8 minute mark.

  • William Peace would end the first half on a 14-9 run which would be capped off by a 3-pointer from Camden Ferguson as time expired. This would give the Pacers a 47-42 lead headed into halftime.

  • The Pacers would begin where they left off in the second half as would extend their lead to 10 after two 3-pointers from Jalen Owens and Camden Ferguson.

  • The Seahawks would cut the Pacer's lead to 4 with 13:34 left in the second half after a two free-throws from Gray Grant. Trey Bryant would extend the lead back to 8 after a layup and two made free-throws.

  • A 10-2 run from the Seahawks would give them a 59-57 lead with just under 10 minutes left . The Pacers would continue to keep the game within reach but St. Mary's hot shooting would help them maintain a comfortable lead. The Seahawks would close out the game in route to a 89-78 win.

The William Peace University Basketball team will be back in action after the Thanksgiving break as they hit the road and match up against The Christopher Newport Captains on December 4, 2019. Tip-off is scheduled for 7:00pm in Newport News,VA.
