Ray's Double-double Propels Pacers Past Huntingdon

THE BASICS:

  • Final score: William Peace 66, Huntingdon College 56

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • The Pacers started the game down (5-0) until a layup from Mikayla Ray put the Pacers on the board. Lauryn Cross would lead the Pacers comeback in the first quarter with 7 points as the Pacers  took an early (21-15) lead at the end of the first quarter. 

  • In the second, the Pacers continued to outscore the Hawks 14-11 with 7 of those points coming from Mikayla Ray. The Pacers defense would continue to perform as they would hold the Hawks to 11 second quarter points. The Pacers would go into halftime leading by a score of 35-26.

  • Coming out of halftime, both teams would put up 15 points each in the third. Khadijah Daniels and Jaymesha Sanders would be the quarter's top scorers for the Pacers, both scoring 4 points each, ending the quarter with a score of (50-41). William Peace would shoot 46.7% from the field on 7 of 15 shooting.

  • In the fourth, the Pacers would be able to get to the line and they would deliver as they went 8 of 10 from the free throw line. Mikayla Ray would score 7 of her total 19 points in this quarter to close out the game. The Pacers would come out on top and best Huntingdon (66-56).

 

PACER TOP PERFORMERS

  • Mikayla Ray finished with a double- double with game-high 19 points,14 rebounds. Ray would also add 6 blocks and 3 assists.

  • Lauryn Cross would add 16 points and 3 rebounds.

  • Jaymesha Sanders finished with 14 points and 8 rebounds. 

 

FOR THE FOES

  • Shaonica Thomas finished with a team-high 15 points and 3 assists.

  • Keturah Billen finished and Shaonica Thomas both finished with 8 rebounds

 

STATS OF THE GAME

  • The Pacers shot 40.7% from the field (24-59) in comparison to the Hawks 31.1% (23-74).

  • The Pacers would have great success in the paint as they finished with 32 points in the paint.

 

NEXT GAME

The William Peace University Women's basketball team will host Christopher Newport University in their home opener on Wednesday, November 20, 2019 in the Hermann Athletic Center. Tip-off is scheduled for 6:00pm.
