Women's Soccer Makes Program History With Win Over Averett


Danville, VA -- The William Peace University women's soccer team made program history with this afternoon's 3-0 win over the Averett University Cougars. The Pacers now hold the record for the most wins in a single season and will head to the USA South Conference Tournament for the first time in program history. After today's win, the Pacers are 7-10-1 overall and 3-5 in the conference.

In the first half, the Pacers got things going immediately, putting the pressure on Averett keeper Morgan Dills. At 15:38, Raine Greene would score on an assist from Gabrielle Jones to put the Pacers ahead 1-0 early in the first. WPU continued to dominate in the first half, only allowing the Cougars one shot on goal. The game would remain 1-0 heading into halftime.

In the second half the Pacers continued to add on to the lead with Kyra Delaney scoring at 47:15. Gabrielle Jones would pick up her second assist of the match. The Pacers continued to challenge Morgan Dills with an onslaught of shots. Kyra Delaney would add her second goal of the game at 72:18 on a pass from Amanda Lane to bring the score to 3-0. Keeper Abigail Monsteller would be challenged late in the game but was able to keep the Cougars off the scoresheet, giving WPU a 3-0 victory.

  • Kyra Delaney would lead the team with two goals, while Raine Greene added one of her own.

  • Averett tallied just 7 shots in the match, 2 of which were on goal.
  • Morgan Dills recorded 10 saves in net.

The Pacers regular season has concluded, and the team will head to the USA South Conference Tournament for the first time in program history.
