Late Goal Results In Loss For Men's Soccer


Raleigh, NC -- The William Peace University men's soccer team concluded the regular season on October 26th against Covenant College, where they fell 2-1. The Pacers finish the season with an overall record of 9-6-2 and a conference record of 7-5-1.

After great build up play down the right side, Yunior Ayala put the Pacers up 1-0 with fantastic finish at 7:07 off a pass from Jacob Woodburn. The Scots would come back a few minutes later to tie things up at 1-1 after Josh Brower got on the end of a loose ball in the box and would slot it away into the fat corner. The rest of the first half was a back-and-forth contest as neither team was able to get another opportunity to challenge. The game would head into halftime tied 1-1.

The second half of the game continued to be a battle for possession. Neither team would get a shot on goal until 73:33, when Parker Owen's chance would force keeper Jacob Smith to make an aggressive save. The Scots began to get the upper hand near the end of the half as they put a barrage of shots on Smith. At 85:50, Mercer Stout would break the tie with his goal to put the Scots up 2-1. The Pacers were unable to build another challenge and would fall 2-1 to Covenant.
