Raleigh, NC -- The William Peace University men's soccer team took on Maryville College in a USA South Conference match-up on October 25th. The Pacers came away with a 1-0 win and now improve to 9-5-2 overall and 7-4-1 in the conference.
The start of the contest was in Maryville's favor as they controlled the majority of possession in the first minutes of play.
Jose Aguirre turned the tide for the Pacers at 18:39 when he hustled into the box off a free kick and knocked in a close range shot to give WPU a 1-0 lead. WPU continued to put the pressure on Maryville, forcing keeper Mykal Manfred to make some dynamic saves. The Pacers would head into halftime with a 1-0 lead.
In the second half, the Pacers came out strong as the two teams battled with alternating possessions. WPU keeper
Dillon Garbrandt had an amazing save off a free kick from just outside the box to keep the Pacers 1-0 lead. The game came down to the wire as Maryville mounted a late second half attack with a shot at 89:27, but the Pacers held their own and kept the Scots off the scoresheet to win 1-0.
