Rocky Mount, NC-- The William Peace University men's soccer team faced the Battling Bishops of NC Wesleyan in a highly contested futbol match. Unfortunately, the Pacers fell to NC Wesleyan 3-2 despite a valiant effort in the second half. The Pacers now drop to 7-5-2 overall and 5-4-1 in the conference.
In the first half, the Pacers would break open the scorecard early when
Tony Chavez found the back of the net at 7:58. Just three minutes later, NC Wesleyan came back and answered the Pacers with a goal of their own, bringing the score to 1-1. The Pacers made some adjustments and had some good opportunities on the offensive end, playing good defense against an aggressive attack from NC Wesleyan. Unfortunately the Battling Bishops were able to score on a penalty kick opportunity to take a 2-1 lead. At 23:50, Njie Baboucarr would get a shot in the back of the net, his second goal of the night, to give the Battling Bishops a 3-1 lead heading into halftime.
The second half started off with some good back-and-forth between the two teams with alternating possessions and threatening attacks.
Yunior Ayala cut the NC Wesleyan lead as he scored at 65:18, bringing NC Wesleyan's lead to 3-2. The game ultimately ended with the Bishops holding off the Pacers comeback as NC Wesleyan claimed a 3-2 victory.
