Pacers Second Half Surge Falls Short In Loss To Averett

THE BASICS

  • Final score: Averett 69, William Peace 59

  • Records: William Peace 8-6, 5-2 USA South; Averett 9-5, 5-1

  • Location: Danville, VA -- Grant Center

 

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • Both teams struggled offensively early on in the first Averett would get things going  off a free throw early on and a 3-pointer by Alixis Roccia.

  • The Cougars would continue to hold the lead for the remainder of this quarter, leading by 12 at the end, the scoreboard reading 6-18 in their favor.

  • The Pacers did only marginally better in the second quarter, scoring a total of 9 points, while the Cougars would pull away, finishing out ahead by 19 points at halftime.

  • The Pacers would come out of the half  and cut away at the Cougar's lead. Led by Khadijah Daniels,  who scored 10 third quarter points . The score at the end of the third quarter would be 33-51.

  • The Pacers would continue to chip away at Averett's lead slowly over the fourth quarter. Deja Umstead would contribute offensively  for the Pacers down the stretch and cut the Cougar's lead to 7. Umstead would score all 10 of her points in the second half.

  • The Cougars managed to keep their lead as Alixis Roccia would hit a 3 pointer late to seal the 59-69 win for Averett.

FOR THE FOES

  • Ravyn Johnson would finish with a double-double with 13 points and a game-high 19 rebounds

  • Brooke Carthon scored a team-high 14 points

  • Alixis Roccia finished with 10 points

 

STATS OF THE GAME

  • Both teams struggled with turnovers as they both finished with 17 total turnovers.

  • The Pacers shot 36.8% (25-68) from the field to the Cougars' 32.9% (26-79).

  • The Cougars had 59 rebounds to the Pacers' 39.

 

NEXT GAME

  • The William Peace University Women's basketball team will return to their home turf to combat against the Pfeiffer University Falcons on Wednesday, January 9, 2019. Tip-off is scheduled for 7:30pm.
