Pacers Struggle Offensively in Loss to Meredith

The Basics:

Location: Raleigh, NC (Meredith College)

Records: William Peace 11-8 USAS 8-4  Meredith College 4-15 USAS 4-6

Final Score: William Peace 50 Meredith College 56

 

How it Happened:

  • Both offenses came out with a purpose in tonight's rivalry game but Meredith would take an early (13-8) led my Kimberly Schuh

  • The Pacers faced some adversity trailing early but a big three pointer by Sophia Church put a spark in the offense.

  • Kristie King  would come out and score twelve points in the first quarter on 6 of 6 shooting.

  • The Pacers looked to stop the red hot offense of Meredith but an early turnover led to a Kimberly Schuh layup which continued an eight to nothing run.

  • Mikayla Ray breaks the long run with a nice jump shot followed by a Mariah Ballen layup in traffic.

  • Khadijah Daniels did not score until late in the second quarter but her back to back layups were a breath of fresh air for the struggling offense. The Pacers trailed by seven heading into the locker room (30-23).

  • The third quarter started off slow for the offense but would get going led by Khadijah Daniels and Manazia Merriett.

  • With around five minutes to go, the offense got hot as Mariah Ballen scored four quick points as  Mikayla Ray. 

  • The lead was cut down to just one point and with ten seconds left in the third as Deja Umstead was fouled and made a free throw to tie the game at forty-two.

  • The Angels would take an early lead in the fourth quarter as they went on a five to nothing run.

  • Mikayla Ray and Mariah Ballen continued to put points up for the Pacers and the game was within three points with a minute remaining in the game.

  • Although the Pacers had a few opportunities with less than a minute, Meredith played outstanding defense to get the victory at home (56-50).

 

Pacer Statistics:

  • Mikayla Ray collected yet another double-double finishing with 15 points and 16 rebounds

  • Mariah Ballen finished one rebound shy of a double double with 14 points and 9 rebounds

  • Khadijah Daniels collected 11 points in tonight's loss

The Foes:

  • Kimberly Schuh finished with a  double-double tonight with 20 points and 10 rebounds

  • Kristie King scored 10 points in the first quarter and would finish with 16 points

Stats of the Game:

  • The Pacers shot 31.5 % from the field to the Angel's 39.7%

  • Both teams tied in the rebound department with 42

  • The Angels had 11 points off of turnovers

What's Next?

The William Peace University women's basketball team will be back in action on Monday January 28, 2019 at home versus Brevard College. Tip-off is scheduled for 6 p.m in the Hermann Athletic Center.
