Pacers Hold On in Close Contest Versus Spirits

The Basics

  • Final Score: William Peace 71 Salem 65

  • Records: William Peace 11-7  USA South 8-3 Salem 1-16 USA South 1-8

  • Location: Raleigh, NC -- Hermann Athletic Center

How It Happened

  • In the first five minutes of the game the Pacers started out strong going on a 6-0 run before the Spirits could answer with any points of their own.

  • Only three Pacers would contribute to the first quarter score, Mikayla Ray, Khadijah Daniels and Shania Springer to end the first quarter with a score of 13-9 in favor of the Pacers.

  • Both the Pacers and the Spirits would get into turnover trouble in the second quarter leading to yet another low scoring quarter ending the quarter 31-26 with the Pacers leading.

  • Khadijah Daniels led the Pacers with 12 points in the first half and was followed by Mikayla Ray and Shania Springer with six points each.

  • The Pacers came out strong and fast in the second half going on a 7-0 run in the first two minutes of play.

  • A jumper for Mariah Ballen gave the Pacers their largest lead of the first three quarters with a lead of 12 and score of 38-26.

  • More turnover and foul trouble from the Pacers allowed the Spirits to cut the lead to two with 5:47 remaining in the game.

  • This led to the Spirits eventually taking the lead for the first time at 59-58. It would be back and forth action down the stretch with three lead changes in a span of 30 seconds. A layup from Mariah Ballen followed by a free throw from Khadijah Daniels would secure the final lead change in favor of the Pacers.

  • The Spirits then took their turn getting into foul trouble in the last two minutes of the game which ultimately led to the Pacers taking the victory.

  • Tamara Blanton finished with a game high 26 points.

  • Lauren Privette would add 14 rebounds and 9 points.

  • The Pacers shot 36.2% from the field and 40.9% from behind the arch.

  • The Pacers would score 13 second chance points.

  • Both teams struggled with turnovers to finish with a combined 37 total turnovers.

Next Game

  • The Pacers will return to action down the street vs cross town rival Meredith College on Wednesday, January 23rd. Tip-off is scheduled for 6:00pm at Meredith College.
