Pacers Continue Win Streak Defeating Panthers

Raleigh, NC --The William Peace University volleyball team defeated the Ferrum University Panthers by a score of three sets to one on Tuesday night. The Pacers now improve to 5-3 on the 2018 season.

After a long road trip through the previous weekend, the Pacers were back at home in front of an active and proud Pacer crowd on Tuesday evening. McLendyn Weathersby and Brienna Laskowski both started the game strong putting the Pacers on top 3-1. Ferrum responded in the first set tying the game at seven. The score went back and forth, but Mya Parks put the Pacers ahead 9-8 with a big kill. Layura Henley came up with a timely kill to put Ferrum back on top. Ferrum would continue to extend their lead and the Pacers would attempt a late set comeback but fell just short. The Pacers lost set one by a final score of 25-23.

In set number two, the Pacers offense came out swinging. Parks opened the set with four unanswered kills. Sha'Nice Frazier was a huge weapon for the offense in the later exchanges for the Pacers. Mya Parks continued to secure kills for the Pacers and they would go on to win set two by a final score of 25-13. WIth the second set win, the Pacers would tie Ferrum 1-1.

Brienna Laskowski got back to back kills early in the third set to set the tone for the rest of the game. The Pacers trailed for a majority of the third set but would pull out a big win. Emily Braxton continues to put together an impressive rookie season leading the Pacers in digs. With the Pacers down, 24-23,  Mya Parks closed out the third set with three big back-to-back kills and the Pacers would win 26-24.

WPU led for the majority of the fourth set. The Panthers would make a late comeback in the final points of the game, coming as close as 22-24 to the Pacers lead. Ferrum would come within those two points but the Pacers would seal the deal to earn their fifth win of the 2018 season.

The Breakdown: The Foes:
  • Kaelyn Daniel led Ferrum with 16 points and 14 kills.
  • Cheyenne Strickland tallied 8 kills and 16 assists.

What's Next?
Due to the hurricane arriving on Thursday, all campus athletic events have been postponed and/or canceled. The Pacers' next opponent will be against the Bishops of North Carolina Wesleyan, however the time and date of this game will be determined at a later date.
